Frequently Asked Questions:
How many days will I be required and what are the shift hours?
All volunteers must be available for the four days of the event which are 23 to 26 October 2008. A full list of job descriptions and hours required follows.
What can I expect to do?
The role you play depends upon the job you are allocated. Most officials will be in a role where they need to check tickets and be nice to the public. This might be at a gate or on a grandstand but the main requirement for this job is a willingness to be happy and helpful.
Marshals are normally experienced and the role is more technical and motor sport orientated. They are mostly situated closer to the track (in the demarcation zone) and the role is to watch proceedings and respond when necessary.
Can I choose my role and can I choose my position?
You must be willing to fit in wherever we feel you would be of most benefit to the overall organisation. Whilst requests for specific positions, shifts and locations will be considered they are absolutely not guaranteed. Some roles require previous training and some do not.
Will I get a uniform?
Yes- you will be provided with two polo shirts which must be worn each day with black trousers. If you are an official (see definition in job descriptions) you may wear black shorts or a black skirt (modest length). All marshals must wear black trousers. You will also be provided with a baseball hat (there are a limited number of cricket hats available but these are strictly on a first come first served basis).
How will I get there?
You will be able to Ride Free to the event with your accreditation on any QR Citytrain or Surfside Busline. Full details can be found on the Indy web site – www.indy.com.au under “getting there” or via www.translink.com.au.
Will meals be provided?
Lunch and water will be provided each day. The After Party (which is held on Sunday evening) is a buffet which includes beer, wine and soft drinks.
The Application Process?
You can apply on line at our website – www.indy.com.au or we will send you an application form. Please note that completing this form does not guarantee entry into the Nikon Indy 300 Volunteer Team. You will be contacted if you are successful.
Am I covered by insurance?
Yes. However you are reminded that Motor Sport is Dangerous. If you are accepted please remember you attend entirely on your own violation and accept that any risk you are exposed to is by your own choice. There are insurances in place to assist the volunteers and these remain in place provided you sign on each time it is requested and you comply with the requests and instructions properly given to you during the event.
What happens if I need to cancel?
If you are unsure of whether you can attend at this stage it is better to still apply and cancel if it becomes necessary, we would rather all cancellations are advised by 1 September. Note the Nikon Indy 300 reserve the right to cancel at any time a volunteer’s involvement in the event.
