Team Australia Champ Car drivers Alex Tagliani and Will Power are set to embark on an intense four-day promotional tour in Australia, launching this year's Lexmark Indy 300 to be held on the Gold Coast from October 19 to 22.
The Aussie Vineyards-backed drivers will visit Brisbane, Toowoomba, Ipswich, Gold Coast, Cairns, Townsville and Sydney as part of their tour before setting back off for Canada to contest Round 7 of the Champ Car World Series in Edmonton.
Tagliani and Power arrive from the United States today (Thursday July 13) and set off straight away to a Media Breakfast at Vagelis Café in Brisbane hosted by another motor racing young gun Daniel Pappas.
The Team Australia duo will then hop into the team's helicopter and fly to Power's old home town of Toowoomba where they will visit his old school - Toowoomba East State Primary School - during their annual sport's carnival.
Then another hour's flight will take the drivers to Ipswich where they will visit the Ipswich Art Gallery's current exhibition entitled 'Driving Passion: The Colours of Motorsport'.
To end a busy first day, they will then fly to the Gold Coast for an overnight stay at Conrad Jupiters - a Major Sponsor of the Lexmark Indy 300, and further media commitments.
On Friday, Tagliani and Power will fly to Cairns to visit the Great Barrier Reef - one of the seven natural wonders of the world. Thanks to Quicksilver Cruises, the drivers will venture out to Green Island, go snorkeling and see some of the amazing coral and marine life from a glass bottom boat.
Friday night will see the pair fly to Townsville to take in a national netball match between the Queensland Firebirds and the Hunter Jaegars at the Townsville Entertainment & Convention Centre in front of an anticipated crowd of 3000-plus.
Following this match will be an appearance at the Bank Lounge Bar in Townsville for the judging of regional heats for the Bartercard Miss Indy competition.
Saturday is the primary purpose for their visit. The Lexmark Indy 300 Roadshow is being held from 12 noon to 5pm, with an exciting, colourful and free community event planned outside the Townsville Entertainment and Convention Centre.
Following the official welcome and launch of the Lexmark Indy 300 by the Queensland Premier Peter Beattie, a 750-horsepower Champ Car and a Holden and Ford V8 Supercar will roar along a street circuit starting an action-packed program of entertainment and displays.
This spectacular feature will commence a series of demonstrations performed by the Team Australia Champ Car to be driven by Tagliani and Power, as well as a WPS Racing Ford Falcon V8 Supercar driven by Max Wilson and Team Sirromet Wines Holden Commodore V8 Supercar driven by Alan Gurr.
Tagliani and Power will not only perform live demonstrations but participate in autograph sessions, on-stage interviews and meet students from Townsville State High School and TAFE Queensland.
On Sunday, the Team Australia drivers will fly to Sydney to appear live on Network Ten's RPM program at 4pm.
Then after a good night's sleep, the pair will fly back to the United States to prepare for the Edmonton, Canada round of the Champ Car World Series.
