The Lexmark Indy 300 will be headlined by the Champ Cars and V8 Supercars with an impressive listing of support motor races, stunt shows, motoring demonstrations, dancing and parades on track when the annual extravaganza is staged on the Gold Coast this year from October 19 to 22.
The Race Program has been finalised for Queensland’s premier event in 2006, with the penultimate round of the Champ Car World Series and the Gillette V8 Supercar Challenge on top of the bill.
The 750-horsepower Champ Cars will take to the 4.47km Gold Coast street circuit for Practice and Qualifying sessions on both Friday and Saturday, climaxing with the 59-lap race set for a 1.10pm start on Sunday.
The Gillette V8 Supercar Challenge, Round 10 of the V8 Supercar Championship Series, will feature Practice and Qualifying on Friday.
The Top 10 Shootout is scheduled for 12.25pm on Saturday to be followed by the 100km Race One at 4pm.
Sunday will see the V8 Supercars resume battle for Race Two over 100km at 11.05am, with the final 100km race set for a start at 3.55pm to round out the Indy program.
While the Champ Cars and V8 Supercars are being prepared in Duracell Pit Lane, three support motor racing categories, stunt shows and fast-paced entertainment will keep fans on the edge of their seats.
The Lexmark Indy 300 will host championship rounds for the all-Porsche Wright Patton Shakespeare Carrera Cup, CARSguide Aussie Racing Cars and the Haymans Electrical V8 Utes.
The high speed racing action will be accompanied by precision stunt shows featuring the motor bikes and utes of the CAPA Stunt Team, Superute driver parades, V8 Supercar drivers in the VB Challenge, burn out displays by drag racing legends Victor Bray, Ben Bray and Brett Stevens, Australia’s best drifters in Raceline Driftmania, Freestyle MotoX and the sexy choreographed moves of the Donut King Dancers.
There will also be Team Australia Speed Comparisons pitting a Team Australia Champ Car against a Wright Patton Shakespeare Carrera Cup Porsche and a Team MINI John Cooper Works Spec MINI Cooper S in a handicapped one-lap race on Thursday, Friday and Saturday.
A feature Friday night entertainment extravaganza dubbed the ‘Big Night Out’ will also be an exciting addition to the event with a confirmed program to be released later this week.
Lexmark Indy 300 Operations Manager David Bennett said the on track race and entertainment program includes fast-paced racing action and diverse entertainment over the full four days.
“Fans will be able to see racing on each and every day of the carnival, with some spectacular stunts, demonstrations and displays comprising a full program of on track activities,” said Bennett.
“There will be plenty of awesome sights and sounds throughout the four days, and we’re excited to present championship rounds once again for the V8 Supercars and Champ Cars at such critical times in their seasons.
“In addition to our headliners, we have three popular support categories in the Carrera Cup, V8 Utes and Aussie Racing Cars, to keep the fans on the edge of their seats right around the 4.47km circuit.”

Champ Cars Over the 16 years of Indy on the Gold Coast, the Champ Cars have lit up the track clocking speeds in excess of 300km per hour as the drivers chase the rich series prizemoney and acclaim. Champ Car racing features 750-horsepower open wheel vehicles in an international 14-round series held in the United States, Mexico, Canada and Australia.
The cars have a 2.65-litre Ford-Cosworth engine, are approximately four metres in length and 700kg in weight (similar in look to F1 cars), are powered by methanol and race on Bridgestone tyres. One of the most important parts of the Champ Car is its wings which significantly impact on its handling, aerodynamics and stability.
The Lexmark Indy 300 winner’s list reads John Andretti (1991), Emerson Fittipaldi (1992), Nigel Mansell (1993), Michael Andretti (1994), Paul Tracy (1995), Jimmy Vasser (1996), Scott Pruett (1997), Alex Zanardi (1998), Dario Franchitti (1999), Adrian Fernandez (2000), Cristiano da Matta (2001), Mario Dominguez (2002), Ryan Hunter-Reay (2003), Bruno Junqueira (2004) and Sebastien Bourdais (2005).
An amazing record is that there have been 15 different winners in 15 years. The Champ Car World Series features Team Australia which includes Queensland driver Will Power. England’s Katherine Legge will become the first woman to drive a Champ Car on the streets of the Gold Coast when she lines up on the grid.
Gillette V8 Supercar Challenge The tussle between Holden Commodore V8s and Ford Falcon V8s in high speed and highly skilled racing action has made V8 Supercar racing Australia’s favourite motor racing formula. It is a 13-round series based in Australia but with single rounds also held in New Zealand and Bahrain.
The cars have a 5L fuel injected V8 engine which produce 620 horsepower at up to 7500 rpm. With a minimum weight of 1355kg, these V8 machines can go from 0 to 100 km per hour in four seconds and have a top speed of 300km per hour.
The Gillette V8 Supercar Challenge will feature the stars of the sport including reigning series champion Russell Ingall, fellow Ford favourites Jason Bright, Jason Bargwanna and Steven Johnson and Holden heroes Mark Skaife, Greg Murphy, Todd Kelly, Steven Richards and Garth Tander.
The 31 cars on the Gillette V8 Supercar Challenge grid will clock speeds of more than 260km per hour on the tight Surfers Paradise street circuit. In last year’s Gillette V8 Supercar Challenge, Lowndes claimed victory, while Murphy (2004), Ingall (2003) and Bargwanna (2002) have also been winners on the Gold Coast since the event has been an official points-scoring round of the V8 Supercar Championship Series.
Support Categories Entering its fourth season in Australia, the Wright Patton Shakespeare Carrera Cup presents 22 all-new 997-based Porsche 911 GT3 Cup cars meticulously developed by Porsche’s racing arm in Germany. With a top speed in excess of 300kph, the lightweight, high performance vehicles have a 400 horsepower, 3.6-litre six cylinder Boxer engine which revs to 8200 RPM, producing a sound that is distinctly Porsche.
The CARSguide Aussie Racing Cars are mini replicas of V8 Supercars, built in four different body styles - the 1940 Ford Coupe and FJ Holden as well as the AU Falcon and VY Commodore. All cars are approximately half the size of a V8 Supercar and are powered by a 1.2 litre 125 horsepower twin cam 16-valve engine. The 450kg weight provides an incredible power-to-weight ratio that allows the car to reach speeds in excess of 200kph on the Gold Coast.
The Haymans Electrical V8 Utes features Aussie muscle power with Ford and Holden V8 production based utes driven by a stellar cast of familiar names from not just motor racing but music, football and television. The series provides close and exciting races from its 32 entrants. Names such as Brock (James), Moffatt (James) and Grice (Allan) take to the track in V8 Utes, bringing back memories of many famous moments in Australian motorsport history.
Entertainment Sessions CAPA Stunt Team - Professional stunt rider’s Matt Mingay and Robbie Bolger are the CAPA Stunt Team. They are guaranteed to have the crowd on the edge of their seats with some of the most dangerous and spectacular stunts ever performed on two wheels. They will also perform on track in their SS V8 Holden Utes with a synchronized burnout display.
Victor and Ben Bray Burnout Spectacular - You will hear the thundering roar of Victor’s 3,200 horsepower Castrol 57’ Chev and see the plumes of smoke fill the sky behind Ben’s red SS Commodore Burnout Ute. One of the most famous family names in drag racing history, this duo has a mountain of drag racing titles between them and they plan on leaving their mark on the Gold Coast circuit.
Extreme FMX Displays - Some of Australia’s best motocross riders will be flying high with aerial madness when they take to the track daily for their freestyle motocross display. Moves such as the ‘no-handed can-can’, ‘the heart attack’ and ‘the superman’ will all feature in this spectacular display of motocross precision and fearless adrenalin.
Raceline Superute Drivers Parade - A spectacular cavalcade of some of the most awesome Superutes in all of Queensland will parade the V8 Supercar and Champ Car drivers around the track right before the main race on Saturday and Sunday. A variety of low riders, jacked up monsters, 4WD’s and some outstanding hotrod Utes will all be on display.
Donut King Dancers - Back by popular demand ‘The Donut King Girls’ will be heating up the track with their high energy dance performances. The dynamic team of talented dancers will perform daily on track and at the Sea FM Stage in their hot pink Donut King outfits.
VB Challenge - The VB Challenge puts two V8 Supercar drivers from Ford and Holden head to head in a driving obstacle course that will require plenty of skill and determination to claim victory. With the best of three races taking the win, there will be plenty of burnouts, handbrake turns, wheelspins, and powerslides as the drivers try to weave cones and get across the finish line first.
Drift Demo - Fans will get a taste of the latest craze in the hi-tech, high performance import scene. Reaching speeds well over 100kph, these turbo-boosted rides amazingly drift in and out of the corners while smoking the rear wheels for added effect. A special selection of cars from Australia’s leading drift competition Drift Australia has been put on show and are guaranteed to be fast, furious and burn a lot of rubber.
Brett Stevens Drag - Australian Drag Racing legend Brett Stevens will be taking the drag strip to the track in his methanol fueled burnout machine with a clear mission - to make as much smoke and noise as he can. Brett first made headlines in 2003 when he smashed the world record by completing 23 consecutive donuts but he has fast become a Gold Coast favourite since first appearing ontrack in 2004.
The Wheelstander - This wild, wacky and completely insane machine will perform ‘wheelies’ whilst reaching speeds in excess of 160 kph down the main straight. Perched high on his back wheels Graham ‘Zooman’ Slapp will be returning with his one-of-a-kind Dodge Wheelstander Dragster to the Lexmark Indy 300.
