BIG NIGHT OUT ON INDY FRIDAY

Wednesday, 27 September 2006
It’s billed as the ‘Big Night Out’ at the Lexmark Indy 300, and organisers are expecting a Friday night full of power, colour, stunts, noise, smoke, burnt rubber and high speed action.

This year will see the Friday night action on track turn into an extravaganza of high performance motor vehicles and an action-packed Drift’n Drags demonstration, designed to appeal to families through to motoring fans.

All four day, weekend and Friday Indy ticket holders will be able to attend, while a special $15 Friday night ticket will be available at the track box offices after 5pm on the day.

Lexmark Indy 300 Operations Manager David Bennett said the ‘Big Night Out’ will showcase a jam-packed two-hour session of some of the hottest and loudest on track entertainment ever featured at the Lexmark Indy 300.

“There will be a show’n shine parade called Supa Cruise featuring more than 150 of Australia’s best muscle cars and Harleys, freestyle motocross demonstrations, stunt driving performances, dance shows, and a selection of Drift Australia drivers by Darren Appleton, one of the best drifters in in the country,” said Bennett.

“A drags demonstration will also be a massive highlight of the ‘Big Night Out’ which will be staged at the Lexmark Hairpin at the northern end of the circuit at Main Beach.

“Friday night has become a popular night for fans at the track and we will present an entertainment package that is fast, loud, colourful and powerful.

“It will be great spectacle with something for everyone, and also a great opportunity for families to come on down after work and school for a fun and exciting night of events.”

For the first time at Indy, a Top Fuel dragster will roar down the Bob Jane T-Marts Straight which is set to excite and exhilarate the thousands of fans in attendance.

These machines have more than 7000 horsepower, can reach speeds in excess of 500 kilometres per hour and can cover a quarter mile in approximately five seconds.

Roy Smith will drive his Top Fuel dragster to headline arguably the biggest drags demonstration ever at Indy.

Stuart Bishop will feature his diamond-encrusted Diamond Door Slammer, drag racing stars Victor and Ben Bray will perform their power-packed burn outs, Broadbeach’s Damien McKern will be popular in his World Record setting Rotary, while Brad Johnson will return in one of Australia’s most historic funny cars called ‘Thunder Down Under’.

Whilst speed and power is demonstrated by the drags, colour and sound will certainly be the key ingredients in the Supa Cruise parade.

It will feature a rolling parade of hot rods, neon lighting, high-powered sound systems, huge engines, classic and muscle cars, Harley Davidsons and the weird and wacky conversions of the most modified cars in Australia.

One of the growing forms of motorsport in Australia is drifting and the ‘Big Night Out’ will present Raceline Driftmania.

Ten of Australia’s best drifters will do battle one at a time in a specially designed circular course on the Main Straight between the Lexmark Hairpin and Duracell Pit Lane. The commentators positioned at Lexmark Hairpin will rate the drift performances by fan cheering levels so that the public will select the winner on the night.

There will also be Australia’s first ever ‘Drift Train’ with up to 20 cars drifting nose-to-tail in two shows of four laps of the Indy circuit.

The ‘Big Night Out’ will also showcase Freestyle MotoX, the CAPA Stunt Team, Donut King Dance Team, Wheelstander, the Morgan & Wacker Screamin’ Eagles team, Darwin’s ‘Mad Ron’ in his 5000-horsepower Jet Truck and much more.

The ‘Big Night Out’ program will commence at 6.15pm and run through until 8.15pm on Friday October 20.
