POWER SWITCH TURNED ON FOR 2006

Monday, 10 April 2006
POWER ON towards this year’s Lexmark Indy 300.

POWER ON was the message at today’s Ticket Launch for Queensland’s premier event set to hit the streets of the Gold Coast over four days and four nights from October 19 to 22.

Guests at today’s function at the world’s tallest residential tower, Q1 Resort & Spa, were emPOWERed by the messages delivered and marveled at the spectacular Gold Coast view over the Lexmark Indy 300 track.

In a series of announcements made by Queensland Minister for Sport Tom Barton, POWER ON was launched as the new, fresh marketing campaign for the Lexmark Indy 300 in its 16th year.

The event’s master image – a POWERful aerial shot of the Surfers Paradise skyline - was unveiled, a similar spectacle that can be experienced from the Q1 Observation Deck.

The 2006 Television Commercial and Audio Visual campaign were screened for the first time, ticket sales were activated through Ticketek, and a POWERful on and off track entertainment program was launched.

Gillette V8 Supercar Challenge driver Russell Ingall and reigning Bartercard Miss Indy Jana Peterson provided their insights into the four hot days and four hot nights of entertainment, while Champ Car stars Sebastien Bourdais and Aussie Will Power sent special video messages from Long Beach, California.

Minister Barton said it was time for a fresh and POWERful marketing approach to continue the event’s growth.

“We see the Lexmark Indy 300 as one of Australia’s most POWERful attractions,” said Barton.

“There is the POWER of the sport - the speed, the engines, the atmosphere and the adrenaline. Then there is the POWER of the location – the surf, the beach, the sunshine and the entertainment. And then there is the POWER of the attractions – the theme parks, the off track events and the lifestyle.

“This year’s campaign will drive the POWER ON message to attract people for four days and four nights to Australia’s most POWERful attraction.”

Lexmark Indy 300 General Manager and IMG Director of Motorsport Ken Freer said the campaign showcases the POWERful imagery of the event and the Gold Coast.

“The TVC has captured the energy, the excitement and the POWER of the Lexmark Indy 300 by the vision and also the soundtrack,” said Freer

“The master image highlights the location – Surfers Paradise as a hotspot of activity, where it’s all happening over the four days and four nights of Indy. The selling POWER of this wonderful location is central to our marketing.”

The POWERful entertainment program at the 2006 Lexmark Indy 300 will feature Round 14 of the Champ Car World Series and Round 10 of the V8 Supercar Championship Series – the Gillette V8 Supercar Challenge.

The POWER will continue with a stellar support cast featuring the all-Porsche Wright Patton Shakespeare Carrera Cup, Aussie Racing Cars and V8 Ute Series, plus a packed line-up of stunt shows, burn out displays, choreographed dance routines, drifting, precision driving challenges and driver parade laps.

The Sea FM Air Show will once again POWER ON in the sky with a spectacular display of Australian Defence Force aerobatics, while the Bartercard Miss Indy and Bartercard Miss V8 Supercar girls will showcase the best sport’s modeling talent in Australia.

The Gold Coast will come alive off the track as well with a quality listing of events set to create a POWERful carnival atmosphere across the entire region.

Event patrons will be able to ‘Ride Free’ on all Surfside Buslines services on the Gold Coast and Queensland Rail Citytrain services from Brisbane to the Gold Coast. This initiative was successfully introduced last year to streamline transportation to and from the track.

Tickets are now on sale through Ticketek on phone 1300 303 103, via the new event website at www.indy.com.au or at any Ticketek agency.

Queensland residents that buy their tickets before June 30 will also go into the draw to win a Lexmark Indy 300 personalised plate from Personalised Plates Queensland.

The annual Lexmark Indy 300 on the Gold Coast is a partnership between the Queensland Government and IMG. The 2006 Lexmark Indy 300 will be held from October 19 to 22.
