It has become one of Australia’s and even the world’s premier sporting event holidays.
The Lexmark Indy 300 combines the beautiful weather, beaches and leisure activities of the Gold Coast with world class motor racing and a myriad of entertainment options.
In its 16th year, the Lexmark Indy 300 will hit the streets of Surfers Paradise on the Gold Coast from Thursday October 19 to Sunday October 22.
From this year, Gold Coast Tourism, Gold Coast City Council and the Lexmark Indy 300 have joined forces to promote the combined features of the location and the event in a “whole of city” approach.
“The Lexmark Indy 300 is much more than an annual event – it is a holiday experience,” said Lexmark Indy 300 General Manager and IMG Director of Motorsport Ken Freer.
“We are delighted to work with Gold Coast Tourism, with its VeryGC campaign, and the Gold Coast City Council, to sell the Gold Coast and Lexmark Indy 300 to the rest of Australia and throughout the world.
“You get to experience some of the finest motorsport you will find anywhere in the world, be entertained day and night both on and off the track, plus soak up the Gold Coast’s great weather and beaches, and accommodation and leisure options all over the region.”
People already travel from all over Queensland, Australia and the world to experience the four hot days and four hot nights of entertainment – an event also regarded as a ‘crown jewel’ in international motorsport and acclaimed in the Queensland Tourism Awards Hall of Fame.
Last year a record 316,459 patrons filed through the gates to continue the growth of Queensland’s premier event and generate more than 173,000 visitor nights for the region.
Gold Coast Tourism CEO Pavan Bhatia said the Lexmark Indy 300 is a significant annual event marked on the international motorsport calendar and one that Gold Coast Tourism is pleased to be associated with.
“Lexmark Indy 300’s challenging circuit will showcase some of the Gold Coast’s spectacular beaches and landmarks, forming the perfect VeryGC backdrop,” said Bhatia.
“Indy provides enormous economic benefits to the Gold Coast and the chance to further profile the destination throughout Australia and the rest of the world.”
Gold Coast Mayor Ron Clarke reaffirmed the Council’s ongoing commitment to Indy.
“We are 100 per cent behind Indy and all the efforts to make it bigger and better, and as a council we will do everything within our power to assist and promote this wonderful event,” said Mayor Clarke.
“Our city continues to build on its reputation as a major player in the events landscape, evidenced by the fact that we host a wide variety of major events throughout the year, none more important than Indy.”
The Lexmark Indy 300’s motorsport program includes a round of the Champ Car World Series featuring 750-horsepower open wheel racing machines driven by 18 of the world’s best.
The V8 Supercars also headline the event as the rivalry between Ford and Holden hits the extreme in qualifying, top 10 shootout and three races around the challenging 4.47km Surfers Paradise street circuit.
The Champ Cars and V8 Supercars are supported by the power and precision of the all-Porsche Carrera Cup, the grunt of the V8 Utes and the speed of the tiny Aussie Racing Cars.
And that’s not all. The Lexmark Indy 300 is as much known and acclaimed for its entertainment off the track.
There is the Sea FM Air Show including the breathtaking F111 ‘Dump and Burn’, the world famous Bartercard Miss Indy and Bartercard Miss V8 Supercar competitions, spectacular stunt shows, a wider motoring extravaganza featuring burn-outs, drifting and drag displays, pit tours, event and team merchandise and much more.
Creating an atmosphere that is electric, a vibe that is positive and streets that are abuzz, are more than 40 official off track events all over the Gold Coast.
