What is the temperature inside of a V8 Supercar?
During a race it can be up to 20°C hotter in a V8 Supercar than the outside temperature. On a hot race day, V8 Supercar drivers may face searing temperatures of up to 60°C in their race car. To combat dehydration caused by the heat they endure during a race, drivers consume large quantities of fluids. They drink up to 5 litres during a race. This is balanced against the fluid they lose during a race. It is common for a driver to sweat up to 3 litres (equals 3kg) during a race

What safety equipment does a V8 Supercar Driver wear?
A driver wears extensive protective equipment including a 3-layer Nomax fire suit, fireproof underwear, balaclava, gloves, boots, Helmet and a HANS® device (head and neck support device). Drivers are securely strapped into a V8 Supercar using a 6-point harness. Two straps harness their shoulders, two harness their waist and the final two strap around their inner thighs to the lap belt.

How quick are the pit stops?
A pit stop with two tyres being changed can be conducted in 3 – 5 seconds. Four tyres can be changed in 8 – 11 seconds. It takes 16 – 19 seconds to re-fuel a V8 Supercar.

Interesting facts about V8 Supercars
• Both Ford and Holden use a 5L fuel injected V8 engine, which exerts approximately 635 horsepower at 7,500 rpm
• A 6-speed Australian made gearbox is used in both Ford and Holden, both cars have the capability to reach speeds of 294kph and can can go from 0 to 100kph in four seconds
• The fuel capacity of a V8 Supercar is 120 litres and can use 60 - 70 litres of fuel for every 100km raced.
• Brake pads on each car are replaced at least three times in a normal race weekend and brake discs are replaced after every round
• V8 Supercar team mechanics spend more than 700 hours tailoring the chassis to the car before the season and can change a whole engine in about an hour
